Why We Invested in Odigos: The Future of Application Tracing and Observability
On Monday, Odigos announced that Venture Guides led its $13 million Series A round to provide customers with the next generation of application tracing and application performance monitoring (APM). Odigos’ unique usage of eBPF to automatically produce context-propagated traces, positions the company as the only solution to unlock distributed tracing for all customers. For the first time ever, customers can observe their entire environment end-to-end without manual instrumentation.
Venture Guides has been operating and investing in the APM space since Precise Software, the first generation of APM. As businesses grew increasingly dependent on applications, the Venture Guides team was the first institutional investors into Dynatrace, whose byte-code instrumentation unlocked the “pure path” view of the application. And now, in the face of highly distributed architectures, Venture Guides invested in Odigos, the third generation of APM whose automated implementation and low performance impact empower organizations to instrument their entire application environments for complete observability.
Our confidence in Odigos begins with the founding team: Ari Recht (CEO) has more than 20 years of high-tech industry expertise, as well as advisory and financing experience; Eden Federmen (CTO) has been one of the leading maintainers of OpenTelemetry and a leader in the eBPF community. Together, they have compiled an excellent development team who are passionate about observability and pushing eBPF functionality into the future.
“The Venture Guides team has extensive experience in the observability space, as both investors and operators of three generations of distributed APM, including Precise Software, Dynatrace, and Tracelytics,” said Mo Garad, Partner at Venture Guides and Odigos Board Member. “Odigos is bringing a disruptive approach to distributed tracing by offering customers a fully automated, low overhead solution that requires no application restart.”
Venture Guides is pleased to be working with the Odigos team to provide customers with the future of distributed tracing.
